WV DANCE COMPANY BRINGS AN EVENING OF CONCERT DANCE

WV Dance Company will bring its touring program to {venue} in {city/state} on {date}.

Founded in 1977, WV Dance Company has been serving public venues, schools, colleges and universities with entertaining and thought provoking performances and workshops through the language of dance. Recognized for both artistic achievement and excellence in arts education, WVDC has toured throughout West Virginia, as well as 14 other states, reaching tens of thousands of people each year.

Wv Dance Company’s current program, entitled “Exploration Earth: Your World through STEAM” is an interactive, multicultural program that brings curriculum to life through the art of movement, music, magical props and costumes that serve as visual art. The program includes a one-hour assembly arts education performance in which each dance represents one of the seven continents and introduces related topics in science, math, literature, history or culture. Interactive workshops follow during which students have the opportunity to explore topics through creative movement. Students enjoy learning in a whole new way and teachers gain ideas and techniques for incorporating movement in the classroom on a more regular basis.

In partnership with WV Department of Education and the WV Department of Art, Culture and History, WVDC provides students with experiences that not educate, but also broaden horizons and expand potential. Current studies have shown that involvement in the arts helps students improve on test scores, promotes academic achievement, and increases self-confidence.

Arts-based learning makes a tremendous impact on the developmental growth of every child and has been proven to help level the “learning field” across socio-

economic boundaries. It also has a measurable impact on at-risk youth in deterring delinquent behavior and truancy problems. Arts-based learning strengthens student problem-solving and critical thinking skills, adding to overall academic achievement. In addition, it helps students develop an appreciation for the creative process and respect for the work of others, all attributes that will encourage success in the classroom and beyond.

As a registered 501(c)3 not-for-profit, WVDC is funded through the generous donations of individuals, corporations, community foundations, and the state of West Virginia. The
